Our Executive Team

Richard Ling

Richard Ling founded three technology start-up companies in data-driven ad targeting (ImpulseBuy Networks), mobile/cloud transcoding (AlterEgo) and e-mail search (MetaLincs) that were all acquired by large public companies (Inktomi (INKT), Macromedia (MACR) and Seagate (STX), respectively). These companies raised over $50M in venture capital funding from top-tier venture funds, corporate and angel investors including Mayfield Fund, Softbank, Canaan Partners, Granite Ventures, Arrowpath (ETrade), Newbury, Yahoo! Inc, Interwoven, SRI (Stanford Research Institute), Frank Quatrrone, John Chambers among many others. These companies collectively returned almost $380M in enterprise value to the investors.

Cece Chen

Cece Chen (or formally, Chan Chuan Chen) is the former VP of Marketing for Modernist. She worked at Grand Rounds and Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies and then ran her own company. She is an entrepreneur with a successful exit and an investor in real estate, technology, and energy.

Cece obtained her bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley and a master’s from Columbia University. She also entered a doctorate program at Columbia University.

Outside of helping companies, Cece enjoys teaching yoga, running, connecting people, hosting events, learning new things, modeling, and sourcing good investment deals. Cece grew up in San Francisco and is blessed with a large and diverse network.
